Don't be ashamed- I've done it too. Walked into the voting booth, knowing for whom I was going to cast my vote for President, US Senator, and Congressman, and then realized I didn't have any idea who the rest of the names down the ballot even were. Pondered the next course of action- should I leave those blank? Vote based on party lines (doesn't really work for an Independent like myself)? Pick randomly, or based on characteristics of the names on the list? Can I do some quick research to educate myself? Is there even a single website or app to go to so that I can compare the candidates based on their experience or positions on the issues?
Unfortunately, this mini-tragedy plays out millions of times on election day, all around the country. Elections in America are all too often a contest for the candidates to raise as much money as possible, from groups and individuals that they might then be indebted to, so that they can buy as much exposure to the voting public as possible. As citizens we are either ignored or overwhelmed by political advertising, and we are subject to disinformation and the corrosive influence of moneyed special interests. What if there were a better way?
VOHTE is that way. We are an election media platform that serves as the one-stop shop for voters who want to research candidates for all offices on their ballot and learn about the candidates' background, character, and positions directly from the candidates themselves. Elections shouldn't be about who can buy the most access- it should be about voters using all of the information to decide who the best person to represent their interests should be.
